As a university professor I use my desk very frequently for long periods of time at a stretch. This lamp is great! It is very stable and has a low base profile so papers easily stack over edge. The wood arms are attractive. The workmanship is good. The metal shade is such that can easily position so light does not shine directly in eyes but instead only on work space. I've gone through many desk lamps, I'm so glad I finally found this one. I highly recommend.Has a minimalist feel and matches my desk. Very bright and can adjust into multiple positions.Update 7-14-16. I've had many sellers contact me regarding less and stellar reviews, but none with the persistence of Tomons. I had to leave on a long trip, and didn't have time to deal with further discussions on the sagging lamp problem. Tomons didn't forget me. They repeatedly contacted me via email asking if/when I'd be back. I was too busy, I was vauge. When I finally returned, I received yet another email asking me if I was back, if I was available to review a redesigned lamp. Tomons surely noticed I wasn't the only customer that had a sagging lamp. Sure, why not review a fix? Not only did they take my (and other's) criticism(s) seriously, they reviewed my general fix philosophy and took it to the next level. This is highly commendable. The new lamp arrived yesterday...Changes? A big white sticker on the top of the box warns you to assemble the lamp EXACTLY as instructed, even if those instructions are still microscopic, the size of a business card, with a dark blue background -- very hard to read. The sticker also reminds you to loosen the wing-nuts prior to moving the arms, then tighten. While this seems logical, I guess it must be said. The critical changes are simple. While I used a variety of lock washers to get the lamp to stay in one place, it was less than ideal, taking a fair amount of tightening to stay -- but it stayed. Tomons obviously received input that heavy bulbs (LED's & Curlies), made the lamp sag badly. They surely looked at what I, and others, did to fix it, but then took the time to review all options to formulate a better solution. It is gel-type lock washers. Gel-like soft plastic make it much easier to tighten, and it does stay. I tried the heaviest bulb I could find, and the lamp did stay in place. The heavier the bulb, and/or the more extreme the angle, the more you must tighten it. That's to be expected, but it's still FAR easier to adjust. Obviously, the lighter the bulb, the easier this process becomes.Let's face it, you're not going be adjusting the lamp THAT often, it will be an occasional event. Getting past that, this is still a very pretty lamp. It's well made, with a heavy-duty cord and switch. The stand is heavy and flat. If you desire a lamp anywhere close to this style, look no farther. You won't find one that uses better materials, and looks so refined on your desk. It now stays adjusted with the gel lock-washers. The price has been reduced to $27, although make sure you get the new version as shown in the 2nd photo.Original Review: The white model of this lamp is pretty. It seems well-made with a nice heavy base. It has one HUGE design flaw. The head is too heavy. Even if an Olympic weightlifter tightens the middle joint, it will not stay up -- others have mentioned it, it's true.If you install a heavy curly or LED bulb, good luck. I couldn't get it to stay-up without a bulb. The included assembly instructions are microscopic, dark blue, and basic. No mention of anything special regarding the middle, critical, stress-bearing joint. How to fix it, maybe?? Experiment to find a lock-washer to put on the middle joint. I tried six to find one that worked. It must be placed on the outside, under the wing nut, between the supplied metal washer and the wood arm itself. It has held for hours now, but the jury is still out. You still must tighten the middle joint pretty tight, but with the right lock washer it will hold....I think.I hate it when I have to overcome basic design flaws -- this lamp is on probation. I still have 25 days left to return it. If this washer fails, back it goes...Update: I recommend two lock washers in the middle joint. It's held its for 2 days. Two lock washers, both on outside, under the wing-nut, (removing the supplied smooth washer altogether), seems to work. That said, you won't be wanting to adjust this joint often. Find a good angle for it, and leave it alone, using the other two for limited adjustment. The bottom joint works better with a lock washer too...1/5 starsI was really excited for this lamp. I am currently building my office for medical school, and I wanted to bring an added sophistication and elegance to my desk. This lamp had been on my list for months now and I finally bought it a couple of days ago.5/5 for Assembly - When the lamp arrived, the assembly was fairly straightforward - the instructions were on the box. The nuts and plastics arrived intact with each segment of the lamp. There are 3 wooden segments of the lamp. Each segment has 4 parts to keep each segment together - huge plastic to protect the woods, small plastic to protect the wood from the metal, metal, and nut to screw the nail in. I did not have to worry about a nail as it was already built into the wood. The instructions were really straightforward, and I saw assembly videos ahead of time.0/5 faulty product - During the assembly, I noticed a weird extra hole in the middle segment. I still was able to screw the bottom segment to the middle just fine, but that is the first clue of a faulty product. When I tried screwing in the middle segment to the top segment, the lamp, this is when the product really deserves a 0/5. Each side of the middle segment's hole that goes into the top segment is the correct size of the nail initially. However, the nail was not able to go all the way in. I noticed that the middle of the hole was not drilled properly so that the nail could go in. I tried clearing the way more with a screw driver to no avail. One hour later, I tried again but then the nail from the wood came off. Game over. ggI was really excited for this product since it reminded me of Pixar, but this is $36 down the drain. If you are buying this product, just keep in mind that you might be one of the lucky few who might get non-faulty products, but you are also taking a chance in being in my situation and end up disappointed.Updated review (7/12):2/5 starsA Tomons representative reached out to me and apologized for the rare manufacture defect via email. We came to nice compromise, especially since Amazon had a deal on Tomons lamp yesterday (Prime Day). The lamp currently being shipped. I am really satisfied with Tomons' customer service. I will give an updated review once the lamp arrives.Updated (7/18):I received the new Tomons lamp. The assembly worked out great! I haven't found the right bulbs for the lamp yet, but I bet they will work out fine. Overall, I am satisfied.
