I saw this Quoizel Grove Park lamp in a shop about a year ago, and I was struck by the beauty of the quality of the cherry wood as much as the shade. I wanted a pair of the lamps, at that time, cost-prohibitive for me. I ended up buying a pair of cheap leaded glass lamps on the internet that turned out to be weirdly oversized, and I grew to hate them, and never forgot about this beautiful lamp. With buyer's remorse, I decided to break down and get the pricier Quoizel lamps that I really wanted. Amazon had a great price, so I jumped.I am cursed with an eye for detail. Right out of the box, I was somewhat disappointed with the wood; it wasn't what I had seen in the shop in terms of quality. Had Quoizel changed it, did I see an exceptional example, or was my memory bad? I had looked at it closely in the shop, and it had the finish, look, and feel of fine seasoned cherry. Mine were a nice color, but the wood was noticeably different, looking and feeling more like what you would expect from an imported wood, bigger grain and not finished as smoothly and nicely either. Not a deal-breaker though, since there was nothing else out there that would be as perfect, but disappointed nonetheless.The metal work on the base and the top of the shade are a pretty dark bronze, nicely distressed a bit, has the look and feel of an older piece. It could pass for black or bronze.The shade quality is what you would expect from a better import lamp. The pull chains work smoothly and flawlessly. I use LED bulbs in the lamps, which is great because the shades don't get hot like they would with an incandescent bulb. I frequently get complements on my two lamps, and would buy them again, as they are so ideal from a design and color standpoint in my home.
