Quite brilliant. As far as I know, Austin's work in World War 2 has not been widely understood for its significance to the Allied Victory and here it is painstakingly portrayed. The book's second half on Austin's work in post-war Oxford steers a gentle course between the telling of Austin's family and his philosophical bravado, illuminated by his relations with Wittgenstein and Ryle in particular.
